Storage Engineer (12-month Contract)

Role and Responsibilities
• Respond promptly to incident, investigate & provide temporary &/or permanent resolution of incidents escalated. Provide timely status updates to relevant parties.
• Monitor & measure the performance & availability of systems proactively; implement corrective actions identified to improve performance & availability.
• Supervise backups, optimisation, initiation of recovery procedures and routine troubleshooting
• Monitor the agreed service level, document & maintain the configuration of the systems; provide regular reporting to relevant parties.
• Ensure service level meet requirement. Propose and implement action plan when required.
• Monitor system according to standard operations procedures.
• Identify, research, and resolve technical problems
• Be able to effectively operate within set guidelines, policies and procedures, and able to execute instructions with minimal supervision
• Provide storage/SAN administration and security management experience in various storage technologies, inclusive of direct attached storage, Storage Area Network, and archival storage
• Provide Backup administration and manage end to end backup infrastructure including backup job policies including Backup to disk and backup to tape (not limited to)
• Provide supporting documentation, reports and other information to management (e.g. backup and capacity reports)
• Developing scripts to gain efficiencies for reporting and automating repetitive tasks
• Investigate and provide improvement or remediation to operational processes
• Conduct routine monitoring using Software tools to measure the efficiency of online storage access, and take corrective action as needed (including performance adjustments to Equipment and Software, or file placement as required to improve service)
• Manage file transfers and other data movement activities and provide input processing, for activities such as loading third-party media (e.g. tape) and receipt and/or transmission of batch files
• Manage online storage Thresholds and data archives
• Providing online storage compaction as needed and as possible within production processing schedules
• Perform system data backup and recovery as required and in accordance with standards, policies, and Disaster Recovery requirements
• Audit, review, and implement IT security policies
• Experience and knowledge in supporting SAN environment and storage space management
• Experience and knowledge with installing and implementing VMware ESXi server, VMware vCenter, setting up vMotion, HA, DRS, and related VMware products such as VM vRealize Operation Manager (vROps), Update manager and other products for virtualization would be advantages.
• Performing upgrades and applying patches or firmware updates
• Perform annual disaster recovery exercise
• Regular 8×5 support but may be required to be on standby for 7×24 support when necessary. Expected to work during off-peak hours on system activities.
• Providing configuration management and security compliance for the virtual infrastructure software and hardware

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• 3 – 5 Years of Backup/Storage Administration Experience is must.
• At least 5 Year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
• Required Skill(s): ITIL, VMware, Windows server, Public Cloud platforms
• Preferably with any two of the given certifications – MCSE, VMWare Certification, ITILv3 Certification, Azure Certification, AWS Certification
• Experience with IT service management best practices
• Familiarity with Enterprise IT environments, tools, data management policies and architectures, and organizations.
• Knowledge in BCP/DR (Business Continuity Plan/Disaster Recovery) Backup/Storage recovery process
• Experience with ServiceNow, Veritas Backup Exec and WSUS patch management software
